Suzanne Carey is from Listowel, Co. Kerry. She has been involved with the Deaf Community since 2001, and graduated in 2006 with a Diploma in ISL/English Interpreting from the Centre for Deaf Studies, Trinity College Dublin. She received R1 accreditation in 2009.

She has worked closely with the Deaf community on several initiatives in Kerry & Cork since graduating, including the Kerry Deaf Adult Learning Programme.

Suzanne has a BA in Applied Languages (French/Spanish) from DCU, subsequently working as a fulltime Spanish-English financial translator in Madrid, Spain, where she first learned Spanish Sign Language.
